We are also researching the benefits of switching to a PTO. I would like a step by step guide to take me through the process. Anyone out there who can help?
The PTOtoday.com site is the Web presence of PTO Today magazine. For the most part, the site is funded by advertising revenue. We also have PTO Show trade shows where there is an admission charge and we sell a few subscriptions here and there.
Coming this summer. we'll have a few more services to offer that we hope will be very attractive.
I was clicking and typing before reading. Had I looked around more, like I have done now, I would have seen that most of the info is already here.
Okay, I haven't learned my lesson yet. Here's another question. How's this site funded? And there's a magazine too, right? If PTOs are local organizations, then where does all of this info, etc. come from? Just curious. Thanks.
We are a Chicago based school which is currently a PTA and are considering changing to a PTO for a number of reasons. Some of the issues are the high cost of dues going to the state and district,PTA is telling us not to fund raise and how the money we raise should be spent and also some events that the district sompsored that were run poorly. Basically we're frustrated because all we hear is what we can't do instead of what we can.
We will be holding a meeting to discuss the pros and cons so we can make the best choice for our school. I am trying to gather information on what it would entail for a PTA to dissolve and a PTO to take over. Some of our questions are 1) Would existing money from PTA go to district or can it be rolled over to PTO? 2) How much would insurance be? 3) What does it take to start up a tax exempt letter?
If anyone could supply me with any of this info I would greatly appreciate it. I've called the 800 number for the PTO and they directed me to this discussion panel. Thanks!
Lindak

Moving this topic to the PTO v PTA section of the Forum. I'm sure folks will respond. You may also do well to review other threads in that section. there's been quite a bit of discussion on this topic already.
