We have the store for the kids. We don't make any money on it. We don't sell anything over .75. We also have a behavior program called Super Citizen. Kids are rewarded this every 6 weeks for good behavior. We give out .50 "Super Citizen" coupons as a treat.
IdahoMom, take Phil Bs idea to your leader - sounds like it would be a great way to go for all schools in fact. What a fantastic program.
Most school stores seem to be a mini for profit center - for the relatively meager returns, the avenue Phils school has taken seems well worth the 'lost revenue' and sure fits with the overall goals of educaiton!!
Great ideas at your school and PTO, PHil, all around, I haent read a post yet I didnt agree with, from you. Your PTO and school must have good strong, leadership.
Our school store sells tons of stuff... pens, pencils, squishy balls, etc. Kids love it, but the Kids WASTE so much money on this stuff. These are kids that can't buy lunch, don't have school supplies and you know don't have the money to spend it at the store. But the minute they get a quarter, they are there buying some stupid trinket or eraser. I truly wish it wasn't available.
The PTO runs our school store. We sell pencils, pens, erasers, pencil sharpeners, etc. We have the store 2 Wednesdays a month during lunch. We sell to 1st thru 5th grade. The kids love it.
Hi. Parents at our school volunteer to do the store. I found this catalog called Max Cowen that I order from, it has really fun things the kids would like. Max Cowen is also cheaper then Oriental Trading, but I order things (games, toys)
from them still.
