OUr classes average 20-25 but never more than 30. That is our K-6th grade, now Middle School is a little different as they switch rooms, I'd say my daughter was with 15-20 classmates through the day. Now our High school MAY have 200 students TOTAL 9-12 grades so I'm sure the class sizes are very small! We had 9 (NINE) Seniors graduate Sat. so you can about image how close these kids are!
Much has been talked about the size of our elementary grades. Many parents were more upset that the school hired another teacher weeks before school started as we had enough students to have a 5th fifth grade class! you know instead of turning them away.....
Now my daughter was in a class of 30+ in the 6th grade. The teacher swore she could handle it and I hate to say it but she couldn't and didn't. Fourtunatly the new Dept. Head for the 6th grade learned from that and WILL NOT accept more than 25 per class and I appalude her. Wish my daughter would have had her as a teacher too!!
Some kids do have a hard time with the smaller high school atmosphere and leave but others love it and thrive! Obviously the ones that leave are also the ones that know the Dean very well! Unfortunatly, we have become the school of choice for pregnant teens looking to finish school out of the evil eyes of "normal" high school. I say unfortunate because we were commended for having 0% teen pregnancy to 75%in one year! Something our new school board will look at, along with the size our kindergarten has gotten to!
sorry....first day home with the "fab five" and felt good to say something besides NO!
