Sorry I haven't gotten back to you! We have merged the PTO to 1 and it should work out fine. We did bylaw revisions and instead of VP's we have rep's from each level. I am pretty sure that the next Board will be fine with the revisions we have made and I am hoping they do well. Can you tell I am not running for a Board Position next year? LOL
We are K-12 and seem to have found a way to benefit all grade levels. From offering first year (recent student teacher grads) teachers $50 to spend at local school supply store to working with the Student Council on the lost and found to offering the Valendictorian a scholarship of $200. Mind you we are very small budget group and the school does it's own big fundraisers but we have found away to be there when the teacher's need that little extra help.
We added to our board teacher reps to include K-5, middle school and high school (before we grew in students we just needed k-8).
Hey subsitute-The two groups together need to look at the good the bad and the not needed and merge. It can be done!
We are a Pre-K thru 12 grade public school, and have one PTO group for all students.
We do alot more for the 2nd thur 6th graders. They have celebrations every nine weeks for the AR Program and prizes each week for reaching their weekly goal, and also agenda books for the 3rd - 6th. What do you do for the older/younger students? Our PTO has not done anything just for our JH/HS students in the past 6 years that I know of. We have had a carnival but it mostly consists of elemantey age level booths, a santa shop which also targets the elementary students. We have purchased some playground equiptment and have offered Teacher Grants to ALL teachers, but what about the JH/HS students? If you have any ideas please let me know.

I am president of the PTO at our k-12 school. We are a group of 15 parents whose kids represent almost every grade. We host many events geared toward certain grades. We have high school dances,middle school dances and a dance for the lower grades as well. We also host many fundraisers that are school wide. We do our best to offer events equally to each grade. It works out very well. We are very busy! We have a great principal and get a lot of respect from the staff.
My kids used to go to a K-12 school that had one PTO board. They had one president and three vice-presidents (K-5, 6-8 and 9-12). This way, lower, middle and upper school were all represented. Additionally, they had committees that were specific to each school.
We are a K-8 school (though w/ have 9th until the new school is built for next year. It is our 1st year as a PTO. The greatest problem we have seen is that the K-5 gets addressed and 6th - 9th has not. At our next meeting we are looking at changing the PTO board to include a middle school rep. How this will work we are not sure yet, we will be discussing it. We are hoping that it will ensure that the middle schoolers are getting addressed with their needs, which are clearly different.
You also have HS so you are addressing different needs as well. Maybe you can have a reps for elem, MS & HS on your board. Then those reps have a committee that addresses the needs of those different age groups. This way you have one board.
