Coin Drive for Tsunami Crisis

19 years 2 months ago #72276 by dlf
We've had great success with Operation Backpack Plus. We located a school in Lousianna that absorbed about 100 displaced children. They went from 200 to 300 kids overnight and we are sending them brand new backpacks as well as establishing a credit line at the local Walmart. We are in direct contact with the principal, know exactly how they spend the money (as far as supplies for the kids) and as of today have over 90 backpacks and 1300 dollars to send and donate to the school. This is terrific because it allows us accountability (the manager at Walmart is sending us the receipts of the expenditures) as well as the children getting involved this Saturday packing bags into boxes and writing letters and notes to the kids in Lousianna. Also our Kindergarten is doing Coin for Katrina...and it is playing into their learning objectives since they need to understand coin sorting for kindergarten. Little hands helping little hearts...now there's a lesson...d

Congratulations SHC! That is awesome! Our coin drive is still ongoing. We did dump all the coin containers after 2 days (as many of them were filled) We have about 300 kids and in 2 days they collected $1200. We are really proud of them and are excited to see what they raise by the time the coin drive ends next week.

Our President is now going to contact a few local big businesses to see if any of them will match what our kids raise. Hopefully at least one of them will take up the offer!

We kicked off our fund drive for the Tsunami Crisis by taking an offering at Family Mass and raised over $1000 today alone! Next week we will have Boy Scouts collecting money in the carpool line(for 3 mornings) and will be encouraging the children to bring their "coins".

Serendipity - Can I get a copy of your flyer please? This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

I think this is a great idea and we will probably give our money to the Red Cross.

Hi!

I just sent you an email with what our flyer said. I just thought I would add this here for anyone interested in some info about flyers for their coin drive.

Once you decided on the charity you are going to give to, their website can give you lots of information for your flyer.

Once you state the info about the coin drive you can give them specific information about how their money is going to help and specifically how the organization you chose is aiding in this crisis.

The charity we chose (US fund for UNICEF) gave very specific information including what certain dollar amounts will buy for the people devestated by this disaster.

Good Luck to everyone in their endevor to raise money for this crisis!
