20 minutes here too. And then another 20 for recess. There is also a place where slower eaters and late lunchers can hang until they're done. Most students are done in less than 20 minutes and are antsy to get outside.
20 minutes might not seem like a very long time for a child to consume his/her lunch, but during boot camp, that is the time allotted for soldiers to eat as well. That time begins no matter where you are and is over no matter how far into the line you get...lol...or don't get...lol... That is why so many sailors eat bananas and peanut butter during training...lol... (laughing but not joking)...
Our kids have 20 minutes, and it doesn't seem to be an issue. More times than not, most of the kids don't need the whole time anyway.
I'm not sure--I think it's like 20-25 to eat, then they go outside to play. I do know a couple of times I was late bringing my son's lunch to school , and he brought it home half-eaten and said he didn't have time to finish. I think it had less to do with the lunch-aides though (I know his personally and can't ever imagine her letting a kid go hungry, especially if it was the mom's fault!), and more with the fact that he wanted to play.
Our school doesn't have a cafeteria--the lunch money for the next week has to be in the Tuesday the week before, and then it's delivered to the gym, where lunch tables are set up, so time spent choosing isn't an issue. Overcrowding is a problem in our school (too many people crammed into a town about a mile and a half square), so it's strongly encouraged to take the kids home for lunch.
We have 20 minutes, I figured there were state laws about that because that seems to be the norm. Our principal had it fixed for 25 when she came in but the board made her change it back due to the time school started and ended(long story) so we had to go back to 20. That is how long teachers get too, aides get 30 min.
