There is website for National Read Across America. Our Title I gives out stickers, one year I ordered a shirt and got a pin. We have many readers to come to each elementary and our pre-k.
We have a door decorating contest and last year my VP and I did a bullentin board at the front of the school. I think I have pics of that.
The Cat in the Hat (our former parent liason) always reads a Dr. Suess book at an assembly. There is a Dr. Suess book about growing old our Principal read at our PTO meeting last year. It is a hoot, and I can never remember the name. We also have Green Eggs and Ham for lunch.
This year, I hope it is not overlooked like so many of our other events has been thus far. It is the 100th Birthday of Ted Giesel, Dr. Suess himself.
I got an insert from Child magazine that has 3 months of events and when the celebration is coming "to a town near you". It is neat.
You can go to
www.seussentennial.com
or
www.suesville.com
for more ideas. I thin that the website for RAA is
www.readacrossamerica.org. Also
www.nea.org
may have something about it.
Happy planning.
