How do you start a PTO?

Look for links to all kinds of bylaw samples in the "Robert's Rules + Bylaws" section of this forum.

Hope this helps.

Tim

I am also working with a group to start a PTO for a new independent school. We want to hold elections for PTO in January, so need a charter, mission, by-laws and priorities agreed to by December. I'd love to learn what works. I looked for a web site links (mentioned a previous answer) and couldn't find them. Has the sit changed? Can anyone pass on some specific URL's.

Thanks

IF YOU GO BACK TO OLDER POSTS YOU WILL FIND SO MANY OF YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED ON THIS ONE! REMEMBER, YOU HAVE TO HAVE A LOT OF PATIENCE AND A SENSE OF HUMOR TO DO THIS. REMEMBER THE BOTTOM LINE IS THE CHILDREN! GOOD LUCK!

I would hate to quote NIKE or BrenC, but really, Just do it. You have a very unique opportunity to start something great. Your own rules, agendas, committes and by-laws. Great luck to you.

I am curious to know how far you've gotten with the start of your pto. I am starting one myself and I would love it if we could exchange experiences.

Thanks

Kim-

Just do it. Read through this site and you'll have a good feel. look at other school's bylaws (I found some in the WebSites thing on this forum) and you'll see how they're set up. It doesn't have to be that complicated and it's really worth it.... Brenda.
