To supply them with a school tshirt or polo shirt to wear when there is a school event that they are assisting with, may be a nice gesture during teacher appreciation week, but you should find out all the facts about their clothing requirements/allowances first.

That's why you run it by the principal. If s/he says, "that's ridiculous. We have money for that sort of thing," or "they are supposed to buy their own shirts," then so be it.

If you don't expect too much from me, you might not be let down. <img src=images/smilies/smile.gif>

I don't see anything wrong with purchasing the shirts. It is my opinion that parent groups should do whatever is needed at their schools to help out.

We are actually purchasing a new fridge for the faculty and staff lounge. The current one is too small and old.

As long as your principal is OK with it, I think this is a great gesture. The cost would be very small, especially compared to the benefit of having a grateful team of custodians in the PTO's corner.

Relationship building at its finest.

I don't know how you can just shout NO! without really examining the issue, unreg. The facilities people do as much to make a school what it is as anyone.

There is actually a custodian appreciation week that you might want to consider something like this. We did it (although being asked is a bit odd) and presented them to the custodians at a public function. We have great men and women that care for our children and do things I cannot even imagine doing. So I wouldn't write it off....I'd consider it as a possible opportunity to notice those that get noticed so infrequently for what they do...and gear the gift (perhaps not embrodiered polos) to your budget and desires!!!
