Try looking at the website PE Central: The Web Site for Health and Physical Education Teachers for field day ideas.

Now that I have read all the posts I must say that Hokiern with the States idea and Tiger Mom's ideas are fabulous. Those sound really fun for everyone.

I haven't been foloowing this thread that closely otherwise I would have written in earlier.

Just for the record, Skyview has never done, or posted any ideas on running a Field Day event outside with athletic activities.

I have posted ideas on a Fear Factor Bingo Family Fun Night we have had, but those activities were on a stage in a cafeteria for a limited number of participants, while the rest of the people watched in the audience. I also posted asking for ideas on a Survivor Family Fun Night, but those were also events held on a stage for a limited number of people while the rest watched. I have not yet posted how our Survivor Night went, but those events would not work at a Field Day Event either.

There is a website called www.birthdaypartyideas.com where people post ideas for birthday parties, and they have a seperate section on Survivor style parties. Quite a few had posted about athletic type events, but you have to read through all the posts to get a few good ideas.

Other than that, the posts that have responded on this thread have been excellent. In fact if I was going to be holding a Field Day Event I would be getting my ideas from these threads.

I just didn't want people looking for a post from me on Field Day events, because there is not one. I also have not posted a Survivor post yet, I will at some point, but not as Field Day events. Our gym teacher organizes our Field Day and the PTO does not get involved in it.

Thanks for the great accolades, but in this case dealing with Field Day events I do not deserve any credit for any ideas.

We have something for our 2nd graders and moving up. Our gym teachers run in in conjunction with the PTO.
Some of the games tug of war, these inflatable bumpers the kids put on and bounce into one another(watching it is hilarious) hula hoop, water balloon toss. I can't think of others right now. But I am getting lots of ideas for ours to spice it up.

I like the go gurts instead of the popsicles.

We also have an annual Field Day, usually in June. A few years ago, out PE teacher decided to switch from a competitive team winner/loser format to a "just for the fun of it" day. We usually have about 20-25 parent volunteers to help man stations that are set up all over our school field. Last year we had 16 physical stations, a water table, and a face painting station ran by the art and music teachers. Our games are typically inexpensive, but fun. One event is called Sumo Pants-the kids put on adult size pants and run a course in them. Others are Waiter-Waiter, a serving tray with a cup of water and walking on a board on the ground. We have giant tennis shoes, size 15 or so that the kids slip their shoe into and see how far they can kick the shoe. Beans and toes is a parachute spread on the ground with beans spread on it. You have to pick up as many beans as you can with your toes and drop them in a frisbee within one minute. This is often at teacher challenge event, the teacher who picks up the most beans wins a "free" PE class for her kids and an little extra planning time for herself. We also have traditional ball throws, and dashes or races.

This is a half day event which is organized by grade. They come out in 30 or 60 minutes increments and have about 90 minutes for each grade with only 2 grades at a time on the field. Our PTA provides a family lunch of pizza and salad in the cafeteria for all the kids and parents and family members who want to come have lunch. All of this is followed up by a student/teacher basketball game with 5th graders on the team. It's a huge success, the rest of the school comes and sits on the cafeteria side to cheer on the players.

An exhausting day for the PE teacher (our only man at school) and his volunteers, but a lot of fun and a great way to end the year. If anyone needs any ideas for activities, I'd be glad to help. I long termed subbed for the PE teacher last year and helped organize the day.

Our school has a "field day" event in June, but we call it Spirit Day. Classes (by grade level) race in fun, silly relay races. There are quite a few because everyone gets to participate in 3. We also have a BBQ lunch that parents offer which is a great treat compared to the lunchroom food! We have watermelon as dessert, but we also call a local ice cream truck or Italian Ice vendor to come and give one to each child. They LOVE that. We book a DJ for the day, so the third stop for the day is time with the DJ dancing, line dancing and games. The 4th part to the day is an assembly. Last year we had a majician, the year before that was a Simon Sez master.
Each grade level follows their schedule and has the 4 stops to make throughout the day. We also have an area for free play & games of skill. Its a full day of fun and the kids enjoy it.
Popcorn, face painting, etc are at our fall festival and fun fair in February so we don't offer that. We try to not tire things out & offer the same stuff at every event. Our phys ed teachers handle the relay races and the PTO coordinates the rest.
You will really have to advertise & talk it up that this year will be really different to get student participation & positive attitudes since it sounds like they are not looking forward to the day.
