Doesn't fly at our middle school. Most of the boys wear boxers to bed, defintely not appropriate and the girls all seem to all believe that the fewer clothes they wear the better.
Don't want to burst anyone's ballon here but ballons are very dangerous for many marine animals. Many animals think they are jellyfish, eat them and then can't digest them. As we all know, ballons can fly for long distances but the coastal states should really not do any balloon releases. And unless they are biodegradeable, they are sort of like littering aren't they? I know they look so cool flying up and I personally love ballons but they don't just disappear when they fly up, up and away...
On a more positive note - today at our MS parents meeting the chairperson for teacher appreciation gave out 4 small aluminum baking pans to make fudge in. Each set of 4 pans had a recipe for foolproof fudge and whoever wanted to was asked to make and bring back their squares to the next mtg. At that mtg. we'll wrap them all up in a bow and stick them in the teachers mailbox.
The recipe is: 3 - 6 oz. pkg. semi sweet choc. chips, 1- 14 oz. can sweetenned condensed milk, dash salt, nuts (optional) and 1 1/2 t. vanilla extract. Microwave chocolate, milk and salt for 3 min. or until chips barely melt. Stir in nuts. Spread evenly into wax paper lined pans and chill for 2 hours.

I understand where you are coming from. It seems like there are a lot of luncheons this year. I would rather put the money to better use. I'm still not 100% sure of what they spend their money on. I mean, I'm president, but I haven't had to do much yet. It seems like the only thing we really do is feed the staff and do a spirit festival in February. Oh, and the 8th grade end of year dance. I know this is middle school, but isn't PTO involved during this time too? Rut roh, I hope Tim doesn't get on to us for going off subject LOL
Lisa,
I gave the billboard info to the principal, not sure if she did anything with it. The balloons were neat but expensive. I understand AEW is celebrating education but, and this is a huge topic for discussion at our school, why is the PTO supposed to buy food for the staff for the whole week? I support my children's teachers and I'm sorry that other parents don't, but why is the PTO always supposed to foot the bill when someone wants free food? I feel like there are things that should be supported, like teachers helping each other get stuff done, and if you can get parents to help, feeding the staff is not a big deal, but it seems like every month there is something to "celebrate" and the staff feels they need to be fed because of this. Who is going to feed me? I spend as much time there as the rest of them and I don't get paid or fed. Sorry, these people that are always there to take but never give are really getting to me.
The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris
ScottMom- Are you doing the trucks this year? I'm not sure if we are or not, I handed it over to our art dept. I remember seeing the story about the balloons. It was a great idea. We are doing a lot of things this year. One is that the parents get to come eat with their child. I can't wait to reminence about how nasty school food is. LOL We are also doing a taco bar for the staff on Friday. A few of us are getting together to prepare it for them. I hope I can get in on that food instead!
