Can you find out if the group has bylaws? It likely established bylaws at some point -- perhaps even before this current crop of officers. You can check to see what the procedure is supposed to be for elections and then request that the group follow the election process as outlined in the bylaws.
Yes. They are all parents. I ve been asking around about election. ..no one has an answer..I have never seen a notice for election. not much of an effort to spread the word in the community...just candy sells and membership fees. Just seems like there's room for bias and no checks and balances..The group does not reflect the demographic of the students.
What if all of the members are employees? except for one that were previous laid off from the school? Also, money is counted, deposited, and distributed from the school's bookkeeper (who is also on the PTO board.) No election ever advertised?
Remember, if you've filed Articles of Incorporation and have 501(c3) status, your PTO is most likely a public benefit corporation with members. All paid members have the right to vote on motions made during PTO meetings, and this includes approving the bylaws.
Our PTO's requirement for directors and officers is that they are members in good standing of the PTO.
I personally don't think it's right to exclude any paid member from a being a director or officer on the PTO board.
