Right on PLW--A member of the nominating committee does not have to be a member of the organization (Robert's Rules) but to be considered for a position of Officer they must beome a member..Now if a member of the nominating committee is being considered for a position they should leave the room while their name is being discussed. Being on the nominating committee does not eliminate you from being recommended for an Officers position.

It has been my understanding that if on the nominating committee and being considered for a position... While that position is being discussed you should be excused from the room and return for the vote. It has happened to me and it works out quite nicely. Unless your bylaws state specifically something else I think this is acceptable.

I checked and Roberts says on p.419, "members of the nominating committee are not barred from being nominees for office themselves."

I myself am on the nominating committee and serve on the current board and will be next years President. I don't think it is any conflict of interest as long as the nominating committee is diverse, with both board and general members, because the final nominees are put in front of the general membership for approval with the possibility of getting a nomination from the floor that night.

I agree with "Mykidsmom". If you want to make that commitment to serve on the board. Thanks if you do want to serve on the board. Those are hard positions to fill.

This is when that little red book from my friend Robert comes in really handy!! If I remember correctly it won't tell you how many people should be on the committee BUT guidelines on how to use such a committee. We have such committee and it is two parents and two teachers/staff members that serve.

AFRS--I believe you need to step down from the committee. If your by-laws are unclear than I would suggest checking the Roberts Rules of Order for guidlines but to avoid confict or intrest issues that may arise, I would step down from the committee or not accept the nomination.
