Do you have a Home Depot in your area? We do a family night program and they get to make something with their parents. We have done stools, bird houses and I forget what the other one was.
It's a lot of fun. We buy them from Home Depot and then charge $2.00 per kit (we don't make anything off of them).
We do send something home ahead of time to get a count so we aren't stuck with tons of them left over. (We buy just a few extras)
I don't know what state your in, but we use a company called Hi-Touch/Hi-Tech. They come into our school and go from class to class. The teachers pick the theme based on what they are learning at the time and its all hands on and everyone goes home with something they made. We've paid for this every year for the last 5 years and love them!
The teachers and students all love it and have already ask us to bring it back again next year.
Do you know how much Journey Back in Time is. We are in a small rural school and I don't know if this is even something we should look into. It looks fun though.
In March we had Journey Back in Time, a traveling hands-on museum, come and visit. Very hands on stuff for all ages. We also booked the evening so parents could come back and see things with their student. Here's the web address www.jbit.org/index.htms.
Well worth the money!!
Not sure where you are located but central Pa has a great Agriculture science Lab that travels to the schools. They just left our school today and the teachers and kids can't praise it enough. We are getting them back next year.
