Materials:

  • Empty toilet roll holders
  • Construction paper
  • Thin sticks or pipe cleaners or feathers
  • Leaves (we used pressed leaves but regular leaves will work)
  • Glue sticks
  • Markers or crayons
  • Scissors
  • Stickers
  • Googly eyes
  • Tape
  • Hot glue gun (used at home to prepare, not in the classroom)

To Prepare:

  • Wrap the tubes in construction paper. We used brown squares approximately 12” X 14” in size. Squeeze a strip of hot glue on to each side of the construction paper and wrap your tube. Estimate 2-3 tubes per child for a 20 minute craft.
  • Prepare 1 or 2 completed turkeys so kids have some inspiration for their own creations.

*These are great jobs for volunteers who wants to help but can’t attend the event.

In the Classroom:

Give each group of 4-5 kids an assortment of tubes, stickers, construction paper, scissors, markers, glue sticks, tape, small sticks, and leaves.

Show them a completed example and suggest they make their own turkey with the materials provided.

  • Use googly eyes or stickers for the eyes
  • Cut shapes for nose, legs, arms, or any other turkey parts
  • Poke a small hole in the sides and stick in feathers, pipe cleaners, or sticks (ask volunteers to help with poking the holes)
  • Arrange leaves at the back and tape them in place (tape works much better than glue for leaves)
