Tree of Thanks
To remind kids that this holiday is about giving thanks, ask each of them to make a Tree of Thanks that they can display in the classroom or at home.
What you’ll need
Construction paper – brown, orange, red, yellow & green
Markers, scissors and glue stick
Ribbon
How to make them
Have each child draw a tree (without leaves) – trunk, and at least 4 large branches – on an 8 ½ x 11 piece of brown construction paper. Have them cut out the tree and write “Tree of Thanks” on the bottom. You can encourage them to write their name also.
Using the orange, red, yellow & green construction paper, have kids draw different leaf shapes. They should draw 2 leaves per color – for a total of 8 leaves.
Have the kids cut out the leaves and with a marker write on each leaf something that they’re thankful for. This is the fun part of the project, as kids share.
Cut out the leaves and using a glue stick, glue the leaves to the branches of the tree.
Cut a piece of ribbon about 6” long and glue to the top of the tree with a glue stick. Now the children can display their Tree of Thanks in the classroom or at home. It’s a great conversation-starter for classroom or family gatherings.
